The long anticipated weeding of disloyal and unproductive political aides by Governor Godwin Obaseki happened a a while ago. The brief announcement by the Secretary to Edo States Government explained that the layoff affected all Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants.
Governor Obaseki had appointed 192 Special Assistants representing each ward in the state and 54 Senior Special Assistants comprising three persons from each local government areas. The highest and most spread since the creation of the state.
However, their impact have had little effect on the activities in the state, leaving many to wonder the viability of their appointment.
According to the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq, the sack is with immediate effect.
Ogie further stated in the release that the action was in line with efforts to reorganise governance structure to enhance efficient service delivery to Edo people.
Those affected have been directed to hand over government properties in their possession.
Fresh appointments may be announced within 30 days.5
