The dissenting members of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State, operating under the leadership of Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, will swell in numbers any moment from now.
The anticipated harvest will come in form of ‘decampees’, that have packed their bags to bid the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), goodbye, at least for now. They will be led by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who curiously, was the party’s gubernatorial candidate in 2016, but lost to Governor Godwin Obaseki, both at the polls and election tribunal.
No doubt, Ize-Iyamu will be returning into the APC family after he dumped the party to contest the 2016 governorship election due to the overbearing control of the electoral process leading to the party’s governorship primaries by Oshiomhole.
Investigations by Midwest Herald revealed that stakeholders, especially the governorship aspirants who lost their chance during the 2016 rancorous APC primaries are unreceptive of the news of Ize-Iyamuas impending arrival.
At least two leading aspirants, Gen Charles Airhiavbere and Dr. Chris Ogiemwonyi have increased their activities in the last 24 hours to establish their interest in the party’s gubernatorial ticket.
The anticipated sudden decampment of the former Secretary to Edo State Government during the administration of Mr. Lucky Igbinedion, has also thrown the camp of Edo People’s Movement, EPM which is the core support of the APC National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole into confusion.
Our checks showed that the growing numbers of pro Oshiomhole aspirants is responsible for the rat race chase for coordinators across some wards in the state.
Without doubt, the disaffection will likely develop into open battle between the camp of ‘original EPM members’ and the invading force of returning force of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The success or failure of Oshiomhole’s quest to return for a third term as governor of Edo State through a puppet, will be decided and determined by his ability to manage the growing expectations and anxiety of his followers.
Political watchers are however pessimistic about Oshiomhole’s ability and readiness to manage the expectations of his exiled EPM members whose major complaint is their inability to have access to the resources of Edo State. Will Airhiavbere and Ogiemwonyi postpone their aspiration to become the governor of Edo State in 2020, despite their rumoured investment in EPM struggle that has lasted over 120days? The seconds, hours and days ahead will tell.
