The People’s Democratic Party Chairman in Edo State, Chief Dan Orbih has thrown his weight behind the decision of Edo State Government to probe the construction of the accident and emergency ward of Central Hospital in Benin City.
According to the acerbic politician, the probe is a welcome development that should be supported by all.
Chief Orbih’s position is contained in a statement that was sent to Midwest Herald newsroom earlier today January 30, 2020.
“Before the government will come out with a statement that the Central Hospital project is a fraud and scam, they must have seen even more documents than the ones that are available to the public.” Orbih said.
He added that, “…they have come to the conclusion that, that project is a scam. What is expected from government, is to immediately put in place actions that will bring all those connected with the fraud to book.
“They should be charged to court and do justice to the case. It has been established by the government that the contract was over-inflated. The contract awarded was fully paid for and those who were supposed to supply failed to supply the equipment for which they were paid.
“So, it is very clear. Funny enough, we are in a government that is talking about corruption and fighting corruption. Let EFCC not look elsewhere, let them come here and do their job.”
It will be recall that the outgoing PDP state chairman has continually called for the investigation of the construction of the problematic hospital contract which was hurriedly commissioned few days before the end of Mr. Adams Oshiomhole’s administration in 2016.
