The fear of the spread of Covid-19 amongst health workers in Nigeria heightened today when the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, confirmed that some 40 health workers have tested positive.
Dr. Ehanire did not however have the names of those that have contracted the decease.
The Minister disclosed this, during the scheduled briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.
Curiously, Ehanire, appealed to doctors and other health workers in Nigeria to always protect themselves before attending to Covid-19 patients.
It will be recalled that several medical practitioners have protested the lack of Personal Protection Equipment, PPE in the various hospitals.
The recent mishandling of Covid-19 Test results incidents involving Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, ISTH and University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, brought to the fore, the danger faced by health workers without appropriate PPE.10
