After an unsuccessful attempt to select a consensus aspirant last week in Benin City, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole may have decided to take charge of the process.
Midwest Herald can authoritatively report that all the aspirants and stakeholders from different camps, including members of Edo People’s Movement, EPM have gathered in Abuja to choose a unified aspirant that will confront Governor ir Obaseki in the coming APC primaries.
It will be recalled that persons who are believed to be loyal to some aspirants, invaded the resident of Mr. Lucky Imasuen where the exercise took place last week. In the mayhem that followed, some individuals were alleged to have been violently attack.
Specifically, it was alleged that the host was manhandled while some property were damaged – including windows and other valuables.
The attackers were said to have been sponsored by those opposed to the emergence of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who is believed to have been anointed by the party’s national chairman.
Except last minute changes and intervention, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is expected to emerge as the consensus aspirant of pro Oshiomhole’s camp.
The main hurdle to Ize-Iyamu’s emergence is the interest of members of EPM who believes that Odubu or Ogiemwonyi should be rewarded with the ticket, to compensate them for taking the lead in the first against the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Other serious contenders that are still in the race are Mr. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu and Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi. There are unconfirmed information that Major Gen Charles Airhiavbere, rtd., is negotiating with the leading aspirants to absorb him as the Secretary to Government if and when they form government.
