Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki eventually picked his membership card in ward 4 of Oredo Local Government Area of.Edo State, to become a member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The governor arrived the secretariat of the party to meet PDP leaders, including the state chairman, Mr. Tony Aziegbemi and the secretary, Mr. Hilary Osu.
Traffic was brought to a halt on all roads around the 2nd East Circular Road in the state capital.
The governor who arrived the secretariat at exactly 1.15PM was accompanied by leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC who have dumped the party for PDP in solidarity with Obaseki.
The carnival-like event is a prelude to what political observers have predicted to be a classical political season in the heartbeat state.
Obaseki had on June 15, 2020 announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), three days after the party’s screening committee expectedly disqualified him from partaking in its primaries over what the party referred to as “discripancies” in his academic certificates.
Nigerians however concluded that the screening committee was a smokescreen for Mr. Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole to take his pound of flesh, having been fought ferociously by Obaseki over his quest to transform to political godfather in Edo State.
Obaseki is expected to participate in the PDP governorship primaries on June 23,, 2020 as a first step to contest for second term on the platform of the PDP.
