Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, wife of Edo State governor, has denounced the All Progressives Congress Congress, APC for what she termed, baseless and frivolous accusation.
Her reaction comes after the men of the Nigeria Police, dispersed APC members in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North East Local Govt Area during the week who were reportedly on medical outreach.
While distancing herself from the action of the police, Mrs. Obaseki explained that she had been too busy with campaigns and sensitising the women on their role in the September 19, 2020 Governorship election.
The text which was signed by her Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okonkwo reads:
“My attention has been drawn to a press statement released by the APC and signed by one John Mayaki alleging that Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki ordered the police to stop a free medical outreach being organised by the wife of the APC candidate in Uromi.
“It is important to state here for the benefit of Edo people and Uromi in particular that Her Excellency has been busy with the women wing of the PDP Campaign committee and she has been engaged in series of meetings and mobilisation for the September 19 governorship election as could be seen with the success of the campaign in Esan Land.
“Also, she does not run the Police force neither are they answerable to her, therefore, the accusation is totally frivolous.
“It is clear that the APC is intimidated by the massive support of Esan people for the PDP government and their resolve to return Governor Obaseki for second term. Their accusation is a failed attempt to sure up sympathy and make up excuses not to continue their campaign.”
