More revelations have been made on why Mr. Frank Okiye was Impeached by nine members of Edo State House of Assembly, earlier today, October 12, 2020.
A State government source confided in Midwest Herald that today’s impeachment is a crescendo of what started sometimes ago.
Our source revealed that the aggrieved members have earlier concluded plans to effect change in their leadership last week but they were prevailed upon by Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the governor of the state.
The governor had called for a meeting to hear from the warring factions and Midwest Herald learnt that Okiye’s accusers only complaint was that he has failed to represent the interests of members.
However, Midwest Herald investigation revealed that most of the members have been complaining of poor ‘welfare’ which they traced to the non implementation of their statutory entitlement.
Meanwhile, Frank Okiye has confirmed his impeachment, submitting that it was the prerogative of the Assembly members to decide who should lead them.
The impeachment news of Frank Okiye’s broke earlier today when nine members out of ten successfully removed the very experienced parliamentarian.
The drama started when a motion for Okiye’s removal was moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Henry Okhurobo. He cited allegations of high -handedness and swiftly, his impeachment letter was signed by nine out of the ten at a brief sitting.
This was followed by the election of Mr. Marcus Onobun, who represents Esan West Constituency.
Mr. Frank Okiye represents Esan Northeast Constituency I in the Assembly.
In his response, the ex speaker said explained that he bears no grudges against the members, and insisted that he is fine.
“Yes, it is true that I have been impeached this morning and it is the prerogative of the House, but I am fine and feeling fulfilled.
“But I must say that till now, nobody has told me of any offence why I was impeached because I gave my all.” Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye insisted.
