Kanu had ran from the United Kingdom last month and fled to Canada and then subsequently escaped to Ethiopia.

He was finally caught in Ethiopia last Sunday. Our source revealed that Nigeria security operatives knew since that he was in Ethiopia.

The negotiation to return Kanu back started early in June when Malami is said to have demanded the cooperation of the Ethiopian authority via a letter delivered by Foreign Affairs.

The minister requested cooperation to help track down Kanu in the country.

Before this time, Nigeria had contacted INTERPOL for the arrest and extradition of Kanu to Nigeria to face his charges after he jumped bail.

Once Kanu landed Ethiopia, Nigerian officials alerted their Ethiopian counterpart that Kanu was on its soil and requested its cooperation with the INTEPOL.

Kanu was immediately intercepted in Ethiopia by joint security operatives of the government and INTEPOL and prepared for his trip to Nigeria on Sunday.
