Breaking: Gunmen invade Abuja University, Abduct Prof and Children

An economist, Professor Obansa Joseph, a teacher with the University of Abuja has been kidnapped from his official residence in the senior staff quarters of the university.

The armed bandits struck earlier this Tuesday morning, November 2, 2021, after breaking into the staff quarters of the University of Abuja, seizing the professor and two of his unident children and others.

A spokesman for the school told reporters that the incident occurred shortly after midnight.

The victims are said to have been was taken away at gunpoint.

The school said in a statement on Facebook that the matter would be investigated as efforts have intensified towards rescuing the Prof and his children as well as others.

Midwest Herald learnt that, the kidnappers haven’t made contact for possible negotiations.

The incident has added to the security worries in the Federal Capital, and its environs, as the city had come under increased security threats from violent crimes.

The university’s spokesman, Habib Yakoob, confirmed the development, saying the victims are about six in number.

“Yes, I just confirmed that the information is true. Apart from the professor and his children, a non-academic staffer was also involved. They are about six victims,” Mr Yakoob said.

He added that security operatives have been mobilised to secure their freedom.

Mr Obansa is an alumnus of the University of Abuja and the University of Lagos.
