Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State has charged contractor handling the reconstruction of failed portions of Benin-Sapele Road to expedite work. Just as he also assured that the state government will complete the intervention work that was abandoned by the Federal Government.
The governor gave the assurance during one of his several inspection visits to the road.
Obaseki explained government plan have to acquire parceld of land to build a water reception point to drain floodwater from the road to enable the completion of the road project.
“As you can see, work is in progress. You know this is a federal road and we had agreed that the state will look for land and channel the flood that is causing the challenges on the road.
“I am here to identify the land as some surveys have been done. We want to fast track the process of acquiring the land and compensate the landowners.
“We also reviewed the design, which has now been completed by the contractor and now acceptable by the federal ministry of works.” Mr. Obaseki stated.
It will be recalled that several roads in Edo State have been abandoned by the Federal Government, including the Benin-Auchi road, a situation that has brought untoward hardship to motorist and commuters.
