Once upon a time, a farmer scattered seeds over different kinds of soil. A small portion of the seeds grew well and produced grains but other seeds failed due to birds and falling on rocky and weedy soil. Engr. Greg Ogbeifun is one of the lucky ones whose seed has sprouted to trees – giving covers to those seeking refuge.
In the words of Albert Schweitzer, “…at times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” Greg’s candle was lit several years ago when he received a scholarship from Shell Petroleum Development Company, to study Marine Engineering. The rest as they say has become history.
The proverbial seed he sowed has become productive trees through divine grace, dedication to work and consistency.
He has found every opportunity to replenish the land with life-touching interventions in his local community, especially through the provision of jobs and training.
One of such is his ‘Diverse Auto Care Company’ at Edo Productivity Centre, established by Governor Godwin Obaseki. He has also endowed the Edo Polytechnic Usen with an Institute of Marine Training, having seen the shortage of manpower in Nigeria’s maritime industry.
These are applauding worthy steps taken by Engineer Greg Ogbeifun to contribute to the development of his immediate community and Nigeria at large.
Engr. Ogbeifun’s flagship enterprise – Starzs Marine and Engineering Limited, a premier private indigenous shipyard in Nigeria is the industry leader.
The tree since branched out into Starzs Investment Company Limited (SICL), a marine logistics company, which is a leader and reference point in the ownership, operation and maintenance of vessels.
Despite his tasking schedule, the self-effacing creative businessman has not forgotten where he started from, and he is therefore celebrated recently when the top echelon of captains of industry and political class gathered in Benin City to thank him for his enormous contribution to the growth and development of the nation’s maritime industry as well as the many lives he has touched.
