Edo LG Election: Oba Ewuare II Praises Obaseki, Hails EDSIEC

The Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N ‘Edo Uku Akpolokpolo , Oba Ewuare II has commended the state Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki for the constitution of Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) and for putting credible persons in the commission.

The Oba gave the commendation when the chairman of the commission Hon Justice James Oyomire (rtd) led other members on a courtesy visit to the palace.

The Oba expressed delight on the resume of the chairman of the commission Hon Justice James Oyomire (rtd) , said he would want to include him the Alternative Dispute Resolution committee (ADR) which is a work in hand to be reopen adding that it was suspended due to the covid pandemic.

He however advised the chairman and other members of the commission to be neutral and be upright and not fall into temptation in the discharge of their duty.

The Monarch noted that there is really no need for tension during election as it will come and go adding that the palace will continue to pray for peaceful election and also protect the members of the commission.

While thanking them for the visit the Oba prayed that they will succeed in the job they were appointed to by the government .

Earlier the chairman of the commission Justice James Oyomire (rtd) said they were at the palace to formally introduce themselves to the Oba as well as to solicite for prayers and support for them to succeed in task given to them by the governor.

He informed the Oba that the Edo state independent electoral commission was set up by law and its mission is to conduct credible election into 192 wards to elect councilors and local government Chairmen and also to announce the result after the elections.Justice Oyomire however told the Monarch that the commission will conduct a fair and credible election and thet he will not do anything that will bring stain to the palace and the state as whole.

The chairman of the commission was accompaned to the palace by other members of the commission including, Hon Mrs Gladys Idaho, Hon Felix Osamuge , Hon Authony Udo amongst others.
