Odighi Community in Uhiere Ward, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State has recorded another fatality in their farmland.

The latest victim, Mr. Samuel Okundaye was reportedly murdered yesterday, December 21, 2022, allegedly by Fulani Herdsmen.

His body was discovered by the local vigilant group that has been managing to wade off the incesant attack on the agrarian communities in Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state.

It will be recalled that no fewer than 15 communities in collaboration with civil society organisations, had barricaded the busy Lagos-Benin highway on April 20, 2022, to protest against herdsmen activities in their farmlands, which they said had resulted in “killings, destructions of farm produce and forceful evictions from their ancestral homes.”

The protest, lasted for several hours and resulted to gridlock on that axis.

The communities that protested then were Odiguetue, Ofintebe, Igolo, Okokuo, Abumwenre I and II, Obarenren, Uhiere, Uyimo I and II.

As a result of the latest incident, the various communities in Uhiere ward have renewed their appeal to Edo State Government and Nigerian Police, to provide security for them.
