A Pan Benin Socio-Cultiral Organization, the Benin National Congress, is urging the South South Governors to emulate their South South counterparts in their deft move to stern the tide of insecurity in their lands. In a statement signed by Dr. David Ekomwenreren, Director of Publicity and Intelligence, BNC said: “…The Commissioning of Ametokun community policing network in South West geopolitical zone of Nigeria, is in Benin National Congress view, a response to the plethora of existential threats posed by the marauding herdsmen, whose inclinations to full blown terrorism has not been hidden.

“As a foremost Nigeria ethnic nationality, we don’t need to categorically state when a locally branded security outfit for Edo communities will be commissioned, we know for sure, that it is in the embryo, judging by the total seizures of our forests and plantations by herders otherwise called Fulani herdsmen.

“In Orhionmwon, Ovia, Ehor, Esan South West, Igueben, Auchi, Ekpoma and Owan settlements, it is one tale of kidnapping ring to farm destruction cartel. Our people are paying hard earned millions as ransome to kidnap rings, who uses the funds to fuel Boko Haram.

“So, Edo people are eminently deserving of socioculturally coated counter terrorism outfit, and it is the most plausible thing to execute at this point in time. The right to self defense is as universal as it is inalienable. So, the action of Yoruba stakeholders is apt, and the time is right. The Federal Government should embrace it, to compliment our overstretched police outfits.

“South South Governors are respectfully urged by BNC to provide a geopolitical support base for a versatile and altruistically coordinated counter terrorism platforms with clear sociocultural and spiritual indoctrination.”
