Senator Kashim Shettima, the ex governor of Borno State and the running mate to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress Party, APC, has been accused of allegedly “creating and funding Boko Haram”, by a coalition of victims of Boko Haram violence drawn from North East and North West.
They have therefore, calling on Nigerians to demand for his arrest and prosecution.
Their call comes at a time of heightened insucurity due to attack of Boko Haram and Fighters from Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP.
Pointing to an earlier accusation by the former factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who had accused Kashim Shettima of creating and funding Boko Haram, when he was the governor of Borno State, the northern group is asking Nigerians to demand for his arrest and prosecution.
Sheriff had made the allegation when he reacted to a call for his arrest and prosecution, for creating the violent Islamist insurgent group by then Borno State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Kaka Lawal, who accused him of creating the deadly sect.
Sheriff turned around and directed Kaka to turn his attention to Shettima, just as he told him that “he was serving in a government that created and funded Boko Haram.”
No doubt, Nigerians and especially, the northern states that have been devastated by Boko Haram and lately ISWAP, will certainly demand answers from Shettima, the APC presidential running mate for his role in ‘midewifing’ the ignominious birth of Boko Haram.
