Ekiti State Government has confirmed the death of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye.
The lawmaker passed away yesterday, October 19, 2022 at the age of 66 years old. He represented Ikere constituency I.
Yinka Oyebode, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, confirmed the sad news through a press statement he issued few hours after his death.
Oyebode expressed the sadness of the state government over Afuye’s demise, while confirming the cause of death as “cardiac arrest.”
“Rt. Hon. Afuye died Wednesday evening at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado- Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest”, he said.
The deceased had earlier served as Commissioner of Information and subsequently got elected as two-time member of the State Assembly.
Afuye became Speaker of the Sixth Ekiti State House of Assembly on June 6, 2019.
