The dust created with the veracity of Mr. Godwin Obaseki’s academic certificates have been finally laid to good rest with the confirmation by the University of Ibadan that Governor Godwin Obaseki attended and completed his degree program in Classics in 1979.

Midwest Herald’s investigation shows that Obaseki was indeed admitted in 1976 and graduated along with other students in 1979.

According to academic records that were exclusively obtained from the university registry, the 1979 convocation took place at Trenchard Hall. This fact and others are contained in the documents obtained by Midwest Herald.

The Green, White Green ‘Order of Proceedings’ programme, read: “Congregation for Admission to Degrees Award of Diplomas and Certificates and Thirty-First Foundation Day Ceremony” took place on the 15th, 16th and 17th November, 1979.

In response to our inquiry, the VC Chancellor Prof. Olayinka was emphatic with his explanation that Godwin Obaseki graduated from the premier university and he added that; “there was another Gaius Obaseki who read Geology here and I think graduated with a BSc in 1971.

Another alumnus who is now a staff of the university supported pure findings with his submission. “I remember him faintly in Zik Hall, then faculty of Arts and social Sciences, another mate of ours recall serving with him in Bendel State.” Prof. Caleb Adebanjo Folorunso volunteered.

The name of “Obaseki, Godwin Nogheghase” was printed in blue ink along with other students that graduated from the different faculties in 1979.
