After months of chest beating and open confrontation with his party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has approached the court to stop his expulsion for perceived anti-party activities.
Wike is faced with the risk of expulsion as a result of his persistent open attack on his party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
As a preemptive measure, Wike has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, to slowdown the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from suspending or expelling him for anti-party.
Joined in the suit are the PDP, its NEC, NWC, national chairman Iyorchia Ayu, national secretary Samuel Anyanwo, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who were named as respondents in the suit before Justice J.K. Omotosho.
Specifically, Wike has asked the court to declare that none of the respondents could take any disciplinary action on him while the originating summons was being decided.
He got the order of court to serve the respondents through alternative means by pasting all relevant court documents on the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The PDP’s decision to impose sanctions on disloyal members who opposed the party’s interests ahead of next month’s elections has necessitated Wike’s resort to the court.
Wike has been at loggerheads with PDP since he lost the party’s presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar in a hotly contested primary, a situation that led to his open negotiation with presidential candidates of opposing pelarties.
Along with so-called G5 governors, they have traveled severally to foreign countries for meetings with APC presidential candidate, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Labour candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
