The desire of All Progressives Congress, APC and Mr. Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, ex-governor of Edo State, to control the state Assembly vanished with the outcome of last Saturday’s House of Assembly election.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), overran APC, with their victory in 12 constituencies of the 21 seats declared so far.
So far, the APC has only managed to win Eight from the 24 seats in the Assembly.
The constituencies won by PDP are: Ovia North East I, Ovia North East II, Ikpoba Okha, Uhunmwode, Akoko Edo I, Akoko Edo II and Esan Central.
Others include, Esan North East II, Esan South East, and Igueben, Orhiomwon II and Owan West.
Despite the pre-election war drum by Oshiomhole, APC was only able to win in Esan North East I, Esan West, Etsako Central, Etsako West I, Etsako West II, Etsako East, Orhiomwon I and Owan East.
While the Labour Party, LP is victorious in Oredo West, so far.
The remaining three constituencies; Ovia South West, Egor and Oredo East were declared inconclusive by INEC, as a result of violent conduct. No date has been announced for the fresh elections.
It will be recalled that, Oshiomhole had boasted that the APC candidates were hungry to impeach Governor Godwin Obaseki.
However, Oshiomhole did not only fail in his ambition to take total control of the state, but also lost considerable ground in his Edo North Constituency, just as he was beaten in Central and totally humiliated in Edo South.
